MCCN encourages individuals to recognize signs like fatigue, weight changes, or mood swings and to seek regular screenings for timely diagnosis and better long-term health. 

National Blood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month, a dedicated time to celebrate the life-saving generosity of volunteer blood donors and to urgently encourage new and regular donations. The observance is especially critical in January, as winter weather, seasonal illnesses, and holiday travel often lead to a significant drop in the blood supply, even as the constant need for trauma care, surgeries, and cancer treatments persists.


MCCN proudly salutes these selfless heroes and is committed to hosting blood drives and promoting awareness to ensure a robust and diverse blood supply is available for patients in our community who depend on this essential gift of life.

National Birth Defects Prevention Month

National Birth Defects Prevention Month in January underscores the critical importance of taking proactive steps to ensure the best health outcomes for babies. Birth defects affect about 1 in every 33 babies born in the United States, making it a significant public health issue. The month stresses the importance of education on preventative measures, risk factors, and early maternal and infant care.


MCCN encourages individuals who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy to recognize the power of preparation— maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and discussing all medications and vaccinations with a healthcare provider—to significantly reduce risks and promote better long-term health.

FEBRUARY

American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, a call to prioritize cardiovascular health and raise awareness about heart disease—the leading cause of death worldwide. The month promotes healthy lifestyle changes, essential screenings, and education on the risk factors and warning signs of heart attack and stroke. 


MCCN supports heart-healthy communities through preventive care, educational resources, and services that empower individuals to take charge of their well-being and live healthier lives. 

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week

 From February 7th to 14th, Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week highlights the most common birth defect and its lifelong impact on individuals and families. The week promotes understanding of CHD prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and the need for continued research and specialized care from infancy through adulthood. 


MCCN stands with CHD fighters and advocates, offering support, education, and promoting research to improve long-term outcomes and quality of life for those living with CHD. 

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4th, unites the globe under the theme of "Close the Care Gap" to raise awareness, improve education, and catalyze action to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. This global initiative is a poignant reminder of the millions of lives lost and the millions more currently fighting the disease, emphasizing the need for equitable access to life-saving cancer services for everyone, everywhere.

National Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month

National Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month in March brings attention to inherited conditions like hemophilia and von Willebrand disease. The campaign focuses on early diagnosis, patient resources, and the importance of specialized care centers for effective management and better outcomes.

National Kidney Month

March is National Kidney Month, a critical time to highlight the vital function of the kidneys and raise awareness about the risks, prevention, and management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). With millions of Americans living with or at risk for CKD, this month encourages everyone to learn about the importance of screening, healthy lifestyle habits, and early detection to slow the progression of kidney disease.

TBI Awareness Month

National Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness Month in March focuses on increasing public understanding of TBI—a leading cause of disability—and advocating for the needs of survivors and their caregivers. 


The month emphasizes the importance of injury prevention, recognizing the signs of concussion, and promoting access to effective rehabilitation and long-term support services for recovery and reintegration into community life.

 April is National Autism Awareness Month, dedicated to increasing understanding of autism and recognizing the valuable contributions of people on the spectrum. The campaign promotes education, advocacy, and the development of inclusive, age-appropriate support systems. 


MCCN supports individuals and families affected by ASD through inclusive care, specialized programs, and community resources that help every person thrive and fully participate in community life. 

National Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, symbolized by the blue pinwheel to raise awareness about preventing abuse and neglect. The observance highlights our shared responsibility to create safe, nurturing environments for children and to support families through strong community resources.

 

MCCN promotes child well-being through family support services, educational outreach, and partnerships that protect children and provide essential resources for parents and caregivers. 

National Donate Life Month

National Donate Life Month in April honors organ, eye, and tissue donors while encouraging more people to register. The month highlights the life-saving impact of donation and the ongoing need for transplants. MCCN supports the “Donate Life” mission by promoting donor registration, offering educational resources, and providing compassionate care for donor families and transplant recipients. 

National Parkinson's Awareness Month

April is National Parkinson's Awareness Month, dedicated to increasing public knowledge about Parkinson's disease (PD), a progressive neurological disorder. This observance highlights the symptoms, challenges, and treatment options for PD, while also focusing on promoting research and fostering a supportive environment for individuals living with the disease and their caregivers.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, dedicated to reducing stigma, promoting mental wellness, and reminding us that mental health is essential to overall health. The observance raises awareness of mental illnesses, provides support resources, and advocates for early, accessible care.

American Stroke Awareness Month

American Stroke Awareness Month in May is a time to address the reality of stroke as the fifth leading cause of death and a primary driver of adult disability. This observance is committed to raising awareness of both risk factors and intervention strategies. The pivotal message is the immediate identification of the F.A.S.T. signs (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911). Swift action upon seeing these symptoms is the single most important factor in reducing mortality and severe disability following a stroke.

Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month

May is Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month to raise awareness of unprotected sun exposure dangers and the importance of early detection. It urges people to perform self-exams, schedule professional screenings, and practice sun-safe behaviors to reduce the risk of the most common U.S. cancer. 


MCCN is committed to protecting skin health by providing sun safety education and comprehensive screening services for early issue detection, which leads to better treatment.

National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month

As spring allergy season peaks, May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. This critical time is dedicated to equipping the public with knowledge about these widespread chronic respiratory conditions. The campaign focuses on promoting proactive and effective management strategies and increasing understanding of the numerous environmental triggers that significantly affect the breathing and quality of life for millions of Americans.

  June 12th marks Family Health and Fitness Day, an opportunity to celebrate and encourage healthy, active lifestyles for all family members. Engaging in fun physical activities together—whether it’s a walk in the park, a backyard game, or cooking a nutritious meal—strengthens bonds and establishes vital habits for lifelong wellness. 


MCCN supports this initiative by providing educational tools and community programs that make family health and fitness accessible, enjoyable, and a daily priority for everyone. 

Autistic Pride Day

Autistic Pride Day on June 18th is a powerful occasion to celebrate the neurodiversity of the Autistic community, promoting acceptance, celebrating unique strengths, and championing the principle of "Nothing About Us Without Us." This day highlights the importance of fostering an inclusive society that values the contributions of Autistic individuals and respects their distinct ways of perceiving the world. 


MCCN is committed to providing affirming, individualized resources and care that respects Autistic identity and supports every person in reaching their full potential. 

National Safety Month

June is National Safety Month, a crucial time dedicated to raising awareness about preventing injuries and saving lives both at home and in the workplace. Focusing on topics like accident prevention, emergency preparedness, and identifying hazards is essential for creating secure environments for our families and communities. 


MCCN actively promotes safety awareness throughout the month and beyond by sharing vital tips, offering training resources, and connecting families to programs that reinforce safe practices and foster a culture of vigilance and responsibility.

Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month

July is dedicated to Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month, raising public understanding of this chronic condition that affects hundreds of thousands of children and teens. This month emphasizes the need for early diagnosis, advanced treatments, and comprehensive support to manage symptoms, reduce pain, and help young people lead full, active lives despite their diagnosis. 


Crucially, the month serves to dispel the myth that arthritis is only an "old person's disease," highlighting the unique challenges faced by pediatric patients. 

Sarcoma Awareness Month

July is designated as Sarcoma Awareness Month to increase public and medical community recognition of these rare and complex cancers that develop in the bone and soft tissues. International Overdose Awareness Day

On August 31st, we observe International Overdose Awareness Day, a time to remember those lost to overdose, acknowledge the grief of families, and advocate for evidence-based prevention and treatment. This day seeks to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related deaths and raise awareness that overdose is preventable through education, naloxone access, and compassionate support. 


MCCN supports this critical cause by offering community-based mental health resources, addiction treatment programs, and educational initiatives focused on harm reduction and recovery.

National Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month

Men’s Health Awareness Month

December

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, recognized globally on December 1st, is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for those living with HIV, and commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. It is a critical day for raising awareness about the status of the pandemic and encouraging progress in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.


MCCN stands in solidarity with affected communities, working tirelessly to reduce stigma, ensure equitable access to testing and treatment services, and support the ongoing effort toward ending the HIV epidemic.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3rd promotes understanding, dignity, rights, and well-being for persons with disabilities. The goal is to increase awareness of the benefits of integrating persons with disabilities into all aspects of life (political, social, economic, cultural). 


MCCN supports this by advocating for inclusive, accessible environments and equal opportunities, partnering to foster a society that values the full potential and contributions of all persons with disabilities.

National Handwashing Awareness Week

National Handwashing Awareness Week (first week of December) is a critical reminder that clean hands prevent illness and protect public health. It promotes proper hand hygiene (washing hands with soap and water) as one of the most effective ways to guard against infection.
